Imad Habbab
Currently based in Brussels, Imad Habbab is a Syrian artist with a special take on Impressionism.
Growing up in Damascus, he chose to develop his art early on and joined professional art classes there. He would go on to graduate from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 2011, with Impressionism as his signature style.
Imad would move in 2012 to Beirut, Lebanon, where his memories of the war in his home country would become his focus. Eventually, he would relocate to İstanbul with a renewed state of mind, and a new source of inspiration. Imad lived in İstanbul for 9 years before relocating to Brussels.
Imad’s oeuvre explores different themes, such as Civilian Spectrums, a concept which explores the deep relation between identity, the place and human traces. More recently, he has worked on artworks inspired by literature, specifically, a painting called ‘Siddhartha’ inspired by the 1922 novel by Herman Hesse. At the moment, Imad is exploring a term he coins as ‘Constructive Metaphorism’.
Imad has participated in many exhibitions and performances in the Middle East, Europe and the United States. He held a solo exhibition in İstanbul in 2019, and more recently a solo show in Dubai in 2024.
